Southlake

Named as the most affluent town in America by Forbes Magazine, and with a population of just 21,519, this suburb of Dallas is one of the smallest, yet most exclusive areas in the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex. At just over 22 square miles, this small town squeezes a lot of heart into a little area. With a relatively young population, with 60% of the population having children under the age of 18, Southlake is a decidedly sought after area for raising a family. With the median household income placed at over $170,000 per year,  Southlake is also the most affluent area in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. With homes situated on Lake Grapevine, it is no wonder that water sports are a favorite past time for local homeowners, and guests alike.

Nine years ago, the city of Southlake developed the Southlake Town Square, where annual events are held, and where the city comes to gather and socialize. The Square, anchored by the newly opened Hilton Dallas Southlake Town Square hotel, includes 100 plus upscale shops, restaurants and entertainment locations within walking distance, including a 14-screen Harkins movie theater. Events such as the Art Walk, Art in the Square, Independence day celebrations, Octoberfest and Home for the Holidays have become annual events that attract not only Southlakers, but also people from the surrounding areas.

The city of Southlake is neighbor to the historic city of Grapevine, with its many wineries and historic Main Street. Southlake residents can often be found visit the neighbouring town for events such as the chocolate festival, the annual wine festival Grapefest and the Christmas Capital of Texas event in December.

This small and close knit community has a great deal of pride not only in their community, their sociability, and their friendliness. The city prides itself on the many outdoor options and recently opened two more parks. Following separate grand opening ceremonies, Royal and Annie Smith Park and Liberty Park at Sheltonwood were officially opened to visitors. Royal and Annie Smith park is a 13 acre park with playground area, pavilion and trails.  Royal and Annie Smith owned the property for 42 years before it was sold to the City of Southlake.  Liberty Park at Sheltonwood used to be a “dude ranch” with many visitors through the years. The City purchased the land in 1999 and the park is now open complete with sidewalk inlays .
