How to get great eBay feedback
Some of the comments posted in eBay’s Feedback Forum can be pretty funny. These found their way into a comedian’s routine:
NEUTRAL: Item shipped promptly and in good condition, but I should not have to bid on birthday presents from my parents.
POSITIVE: I don’t really remember what I ordered. But I’ve been sitting in the box it came in all day, and it’s great!
NEGATIVE: Lederhosen not as pink as the picture led me to believe.
Of course, for sellers, the feedback system is no joke. It’s a well-understood fact that eBay bidders are willing to pay higher prices for items from sellers with a large number of positive feedback reports, and that items listed by new sellers can sell for lower prices than the same item sold by a more established seller.
Part of that is the practical lessons in writing good product descriptions, taking great photographs, and writing headlines that attract attention. And part of it is the deeply ingrained skepticism that buyers have when it comes to paying top dollar for an item they can’t examine in person before they buy.
For anyone who is new to selling on eBay, learning to earn positive feedback reports is vital. There are five parts to the rating that buyers can provide on each items purchased from an eBay seller. The first part – which is public, and cannot be changed or amended – is the overall rating.
Sellers can see which buyers left positive, negative or neutral feedback. In addition, buyers can leave detailed feedback ratings (DSR’s) that are anonymous, so sellers cannot see which specific buyer left a specific detailed feedback rating. The four categories of detailed feedback one to five star feedback ratings are explained here , and include:
- How accurate was the item description?
- How satisfied were you with the seller’s communication?
- How quickly did the seller ship the item?
- How reasonable were the shipping and handling charges?
One of the reasons that many people who have unwanted or unneeded items they’d like to sell on eBay turn to eBay consignment stores like the five Easysale locations in North Texas is that they will realize higher prices because bidders like the assurance of knowing that the item has been listed by a company with a strong track record of selling quality merchandise, as evidenced by outstanding feedback stores. The ease of having their items evaluated, photographed, listed, managed, and shipped by the trained staff is another reason that eBay drop-off stores are a good option for people and companies who don’t plan to make selling on eBay an ongoing business.
