Feeling Lucky?

Feeling lucky this St. Patrick’s Day? A lot of eBay sellers seem to be. This week’s offerings offerings from lucky eBay sellers include:

  • A real World Series ring.
  • A one-of-a-kind Ferrari motorcycle.
  • A full-functioning television station.
  • A $21 million iPad.

The World Series ring is from former Detroit Tigers infielder Doug Baker, who is selling a 1984 World Series ring that had been stolen and returned years later – after he had gotten a replacement. Bidding was at $12,322 when this was posted.

Interested in running your own TV station? WMKG-LP, Channel 38 (a UHF station in Western Michigan that shows a mix of live talk shows and family and outdoor sports programming) is “priced to sell” at $550,000, according to its listing on eBay. Station owner Bud Kelley wants sell the profitable small-town TV station in order to relocate to Florida with his wife of 35 years “but not much longer if I don’t sell the station and move someplace warmer.”

If your pockets aren’t quite up for a half-million dollar auction, and you want a one-of-a-kind Ferrari-endorsed motorcycle, you can spend a quarter of a million on a one-off

Ferrari-endorsed motorcycle built by renowned engineer Davis Kay. It’s the only motorcycle ever made with the Ferrari emblem, and an engine custom-built by Ferrari.

Last, but hardly least, one of the more surprising items on eBay this week is a $21 million iPad. That’s right – a “new, sealed-in-box 16GB iPad being offered by a “top-rated seller” with 99.3% positive feedback ratings – for a Buy It Now price of $21 million plus $14.42 in shipping.

That seller seems to be relying a bit much on the “luck of the Irish”,  considering that there are 394 other iPads for sale, most with overseas bidders clamoring for the devices that go on sale in the U.S. and 10 other countries in April but won’t be available worldwide for several months after that. Most foreign buyers seem willing to offer a 20-25% premium to sellers who offer to purchase the iPad here and ship it immediately overseas, with an average price of $850-900 for a $699 model of the iPad.

Of course, on Sunday morning, two days after Apple began taking orders online — and three weeks before the device ships — a search for “iPad” on eBay turned up 2,078 listings, from iPad screen protectors to iPad-ready purses and domain names.

Don’t have any Ferrari’s, TV stations or world-series rings in your garage? And plan on keeping any iPads that come your way? Don’t worry. Chances are you have other unwanted items around your house that you can turn into cash this spring. They may not get six or seven-figure bids, but the average American household has items that could net over $3,000 on eBay, according to one study.
