Selling to the Most Demanding Buyers

In many ways, eBay buyers are the most demanding buyers in the world.  And why not? They’re shopping at a constantly changing worldwide marketplace where they can pick and choose from exotic luxuries and everyday necessities. They know:

  • Every item offered for sale is guaranteed to be in stock.
  • They can shop anywhere, anytime, from the safety and comfort of  home.
  • Purchases will be delivered to their doorstep.
  • Feedback from other buyers is recorded, and available before they buy.

If you’re thinking about starting to sell items on eBay during 2010, learning about the eBay feedback system is an important task along your road to profitability. Some buyers are reluctant to buy from a seller who hasn’t earned a large number of positive feedback ratings.

Picky eBay bidders base the amount they’re wiEasysale feedbacklling to pay on the item description and the feedback rating for the seller listing the item.  Most collectors want items that are in perfect condition (no chips, cracks, stains, or damage), and brand-name items in new or nearly new condition always get higher prices than merchandise that shows signs of use.

If they see something they want, they can set their own price – and once the purchase is complete, they can use the eBay Feedback System to rate the seller on:

  • How well the item was described
  • Communication
  • Shipping time
  • Shipping and handling charges

eBay made major changes to its feedback system in 2009, to create a more level playing field for buyers and sellers. Now, buyers can rate sellers publicly on whether their purchasing experience was positive, neutral, or negative – and privately on a scoring scale that contributes to a seller’s overall rating, without the seller being able to track the rating to a particular buyer.

One way to get the maximum price for your higher-priced offerings while you build up your feedback score is to use an eBay Registered eBay Drop-Off Location (REDOL) like Easysale for valuable items – and list lower-cost items that buyers are more willing to buy from a new seller under your own eBay seller ID.

eBay consignment stores or REDOLs are also ideal for sellers who need to:

  • Dispose of items from a family estate.
  • Raise cash for a particular purpose, with a one-time asset sale.
  • Clear space in your home with a “cash in the attic” style clear-out.
  • Raise money for a charity by combining donated items from many sources.

With five eBay stores in North Texas, Easysale has sold more than 70,000 consignment items over the past five years, earning outstanding feedback ratings along the way. This gives buyers the confidence to bid their maximum purchase price.
